Bartali is a name worth remembering. One of the first luxury yachts in its size category to switch to hybrid-electric propulsion, it also boasts one of the most innovative gimmicks when it comes to luxury, in the form of a tender garage that doubles as a lavish seawater pool indoors.

Bartali, originally known as Genesi, was one of the most interesting and innovative superyacht launches of 2016. At a little under 50 meters (47.5 meters/154.5 feet), it continues to be the fourth-largest model launched by Wider Yachts.

At the time of its debut, it was unanimously considered one of the most technologically advanced designs in its size category, which resulted in a plethora of prestigious awards, including the World Superyacht Awards, World Yachts Trophy, Showboats Design Awards, and MYS/RINA.

Officially launched at the end of 2016, Genesi was delivered to its owner in the summer of 2017, when it got its new name, Bartali. Prior to that, the owner had asked for a few minor modifications, most notably the addition of a walk-in wardrobe in the master suite and changes to the galley. Otherwise, the new pleasure craft was perfect.

According to the builder, the mysterious Canadian owner was particularly drawn to Bartali due to its out-of-the-box approach to propulsion. Bartali claims to be the first of its size to be fitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system.

The most obvious benefit is the increased fuel efficiency, leading to a lower environmental impact. Equally important for the owner and guests, hybrid-electric propulsion meant that the yacht could cruise extensively without conventional vessels’ typical unpleasant noise and vibration levels. Wider Yachts explains that the diesel-electric system, combined with azimuthal pods, allows Bartali to cruise almost completely silent when running only on batteries.

The builder also described Bartali’s owner as a passionate water sports lover who fully appreciated the yacht’s generous tender garage space, large beach club, and huge main tender. This brings us to the Italian vessel’s second game-changing feature – a complex convertible tender garage.

Imagine a huge tender garage that houses a waterski boat of approximately ten meters (32.8 feet), which is already a remarkable feature on a yacht this size. When the tender is out at sea, this garage becomes a fabulous indoor pool filled with seawater. A carbon section, which stays hidden the rest of the time, is conjoined with the two fold-down platforms to the port and at the stern to create a lavish beach club, unfolding over 90 square meters (968.7 square feet).

This engineering achievement is not only highly luxurious but unique among all pleasure craft in the below 50-meter category. In addition to this convertible garage/seawater pool, Bartali also boasts a conventional jacuzzi and a second garage forward for storing all the water toys, and an additional rescue tender, half the size of the main tender in the huge garage.

The classic jacuzzi sits on the yacht’s vast sun deck, flanked by comfortable sun loungers. A spacious foredeck lounge conveniently turns into an outdoor cinema in just minutes. Aft on the upper deck, guests have access to a sophisticated dining setup for enjoying gourmet meals in the open air.

As you’d expect, the master suite is the crown jewel of Bartali’s lavish five-cabin configuration. Located on the main deck, it opens to the outdoors thanks to a large private balcony, which makes it feel even more spacious, blurring the line between the indoor and the outdoor.

It also includes a richly decorated marble bathroom and a separate private study. Like most superyacht owners, Bartali’s owner wanted to be able to mix work and play during his exotic vacations.

All the other cabins, including two VIP suites and two smaller cabins, are located on the lower deck. The crew quarters can accommodate up to ten people, including the captain.

Sporting a modern aluminum hull and superstructure, Bartali also complies with all regulations for commercial use, meaning it can safely operate as a charter yacht. Still, it has only been used privately throughout the six years since its delivery.

Today, it literally looks as good as new, thanks to a full paint job completed earlier this year. Performance-wise, it promises a transatlantic range and a cruising speed of 14 knots (16 mph/26 kph).

Bartali is one of the most successful Wider Yachts models, built on the Wider 150 platform. Its luxurious exterior style comes from the acclaimed Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design, with interiors by IdealITALIA. Even after more than five years since its debut, this Italian build is worth nearly $25 million, which confirms its timeless value.

Until now, Bartali has remained secretive for the most part, having been owned by the same owner since the beginning, who only used it privately. After six years, it’s ready to be in the spotlight. Whoever will be willing to pay €22.8 million ($24.8 million) for this luxury hybrid-electric yacht might also decide to share it with wealthy charter customers.
