From the hoity-toity BAFTAs to the jovial People’s Choice Awards, the events this past week were pretty varied. So too were the watches that we spotted on A-listers.

To wit, Simu Liu changed his wrist candy three times while hosting the People’s Choice Awards, showcasing a trio of IWC Portugiesers with different complications. Brian Cox attended a party for British Vogue wearing a Vacheron Constantin Patrimony, while John Cena hit the Ricky Stankicky screening with a Rolex Explorer II on his wrist. Sterling K. Brown and Shameik Moore also stepped out in a Panerai Luminors. (They were different references, okay.)

Across the pond, Colman Domingo and Rami Malek attended the BAFTAs, rocking timepieces by Omega and Cartier, respectively. No horological double-ups there.

Below are the best watch flexes of the week.

  • Simu Liu: IWC Portugieser Tourbillon

Simu Liu hosted the People’s Choice Awards in truly spectacular fashion, wearing not one but three wristwatches. The Barbie star sported three different iterations of the IWC Portugieser at Sunday’s ceremony, showcasing the evolution of the model and the watchmaker’s complications. Launched in 1939, the Portugieser is one of the oldest and most popular watches in the IWC collection. Liu showed off a Perpetual Calendar (Ref. IW503302), a Hand-Wound Tourbillon (Ref. IW545801), and an Annual Calendar (Ref. IW503502). Quite the flex considering the tourbillon alone costs $66,400.

  • John Cena: Rolex Explorer II

Only John Cena could make a 42 mm Rolex look small. The wrestler-turned-actor attended the Ricky Stanicky screening in Florida on Wednesday evening wearing an Explorer II that was dwarfed by his biceps. A riff on the Explorer II that Rolex released in 1971, Reference 216570 was launched in 2011 and discontinued in 2021. As such, the model is coveted among collectors and costs upward of $14,000 on the secondary market. It features an Oystersteel case, a white dial with luminous markers, a stainless steel bezel with a 24-hour scale, and a matching steel Oyster bracelet. Warning: Watch may be larger than it appears.

  • Brian Cox: Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moon Phase

Succession star Brian Cox paired elegant Dunhill eveningwear with a chic Vacheron Constantin for British Vogue and Tiffany & Co.’s Fashion and Film party. Introduced in 2017, the Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date was inspired by the watches of the 1950s and has a simple, classic design that is juxtaposed with complex mechanics. The 42.5 mm case is crafted from 18-karat white gold, while the large white dial features a retrograde date display and a precise moon phase with two polished gold moons and a star-studded sky. VC says the latter complication only needs adjusting every 122 years. The dress watch will set you back $49,400.

  • Colman Domingo: Omega De Ville Prestige

Colman Domingo may have lost the Leading Actor BAFTA to Cillian Murphy, but the Rustin star looked damn stylish while doing so. Domingo paired a custom Boss suit with a smart Omega De Ville Prestige for the ceremony. A riff on the ‘90s original, this modern reference is distinguished by a 40 mm stainless steel case and a silvery dial with a crystal finish. The face features greyed hands and alternating Roman numerals and cabochon indexes, as well as a date window at 6 o’clock and a railway minute track on the outer zone. The dress watch is equipped with a matching steel bracelet, naturally. It is priced at a relatively modest $4,900.

  • Sterling K. Brown: Panerai Luminor Due

Sterling K. Brown scored top honors at the African American Film Critics Association Awards on Wednesday evening, winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in American Fiction. He wore a winning wristwatch to the ceremony, too. The Panerai Luminor Due in question showcases a 42 mm polished steel case and a simple white sun-brushed dial. In addition to luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers, the face sports a date display at 3 o’clock and a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. To top it off, the watch is fitted with a nylon strap designed by Prada. The sophisticated piece costs $7,300.

  • Rami Malek: Cartier Tank Française

Rami Malek opted to wear Zegna and Cartier to this year’s BAFTAs. Mr. Robot’s watch choice isn’t exactly surprising, of course: He has been an ambassador for the Parisian jeweler since 2020 and appeared in an ad for the new Tank Française a year ago. The actor went with an 18-karat yellow-gold iteration of the Française, with a golden sunray dial, blue sword-shaped hands, a sapphire cabochon, and a gold bracelet. The small reference (25.7 mm) will set you back $22,300.

  • Shameik Moore: Panerai Luminor Logo

Shameik Alti Moore channeled some of his character’s bad-ass energy at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday. The American actor and musician, best known for voicing Spider-Man in the new animated films, wore a menacing black Panerai Luminor Logo (PAM0776) on the red carpet. The watch features a 44 mm stainless steel class and a black dial with Arabic numerals and a seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. Other highlights include a distinctive crown protector and a black alligator strap. Powered by the mechanical P.6000 movement, the timepiece also has an impressive power reserve of three days. The Luminor is available in Panerai stores upon request.
