The Oscars are the biggest moment in Hollywood each year. While the stars have been bringing their A-game throughout the award season, for the 96th annual Academy Awards, they pulled out all the stops for their wrist game. On the red carpet, we saw some of the most hyped watches of the past year, from Ke Huy Quan’s Cartier Santos-Dumont Micro-Rotor to Roger Federer’s Rolex Daytona Le Mans. But these weren’t the only models to catch our eye—here are all of our favorite watches of the evening.

  • Roger Federer in a Rolex Daytona Le Mans

Roger Federer and his watch collection need no introduction. The tennis legend has built an equally impressive reputation for the timepieces he’s worn on and off the court over his storied career. At this year’s 96th annual Academy Awards, Federer donned a debonair black and white look complete with the biggest release from the Crown in 2023: the Rolex Daytona Le Mans.

  • Robert Downey Jr. in a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph

Robert Downey Jr. is no stranger to the Oscars, sweeping up his first nomination all the way back in 1993 for Best Actor in Chaplin. However, the veteran actor was yet to land his first Academy Award win until this year—he took home the award for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer. Robert Downey Jr. walked the red carpet in a contemporary all-black look and coupled it with a classic timepiece from Jaeger-LeCoultre. Over the years, he’s built an equally strong reputation for his watch collection, which, at times, has included some pretty wild pieces. For the 96th Academy Awards he went with something more refined: a Reverso Tribute Chronograph in rose gold.

  • Ryan Gosling in TAG Heuer

Three-time Oscar nominated actor Ryan Gosling came to this year’s Academy Awards hopeful to finally notch a win for his portrayal of Ken in the popular film Barbie. While he ultimately lost to Robert Downey Jr., the TAG Heuer ambassador took the upset in stride. Gosling wore a custom Gucci suit coupled with a timepiece from the brand. He opted for one of TAG’s latest releases, just announced at the end of January during LVMH Watch Week. The Plasma features a slew of diamonds including a pink diamond on the dial and as the crown. The style was certainly more than Ken-ough to round out Gosling’s run with the Barbie film.

  • Simu Liu in a Jacob & Co The World Is Yours Dual Time Zone

Simu Liu has risen in the Hollywood zeitgeist in the past several years thanks to his roles in the Marvel Universe and more recently Barbie. While he didn’t receive a nomination for his role as Ken, he came to this year’s Academy Awards in support of the acclaimed film’s eight nominations, including Best Picture. As Liu has come into prominence, he’s proven he has a keen eye for a diverse range of watches from more subtle styles to bolder ones. For the Oscars, he opted for the latter, sporting a Jacob & Co The World Is Yours Dual Time Zone with his all-black look—the model makes a big statement with its lacquered blue dial and rose-gold continents.

  • Matthew McConaughey in a Jacob & Co. Jean Bugatti

Despite his tenured career spanning several decades, would you believe Matthew McConaughey has only ever received one Oscar nomination and win? This year, he joined the award show as a presenter and served up an ultra-stylish look while taking the stage. McConaughey looked sharp in brown and black Versace tuxedo paired with a black bowtie. He completed the ensemble with a totally wild watch from Jacob & Co. This particular model draws inspiration from the dashboard of the ultimate luxury car: a Bugatti.

The multitalented actor was nominated for his first-ever Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in American Fiction. While he didn’t land an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of troubled teenager Angus Tully in the film, he joined his fellow cast and crew at the Oscars as the film went up for five awards, including Best Picture. The young star attended the event perfectly styled like a Hollywood veteran. He punctuated his look with a 40mm Omega De Ville Tresor in stainless steel with a black dial and black leather strap, complete with the brand’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8934.

It’s been a big couple of years for Cord Jefferson. The writer and director made his feature directorial debut with American Fiction in 2023 and received his first two Academy Award nominations for the film, for both Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Ultimately, Jefferson notched his first win for the latter and he did so in style. He kept his look fairly simple but upped the ante with a powerhouse watch from Omega: none other than a Speedy to be exact. The sportiness of the 42mm stainless steel Moonwatch may seem like an unconventional choice for the red carpet, but its black and white color scheme paired perfectly with Jefferson’s classic tux.

  • Bradley Cooper a Louis Vuitton Tambour

Bradley Cooper is an Academy Award veteran. The brilliant actor has received an astounding 12 nominations over the course of his incredible career including three for his film Maestro this year. Yet, Cooper is still yet to land that well-deserved win, making him among the most nominated actors with no wins. Still, he came dressed to the nines as he strutted down the red carpet with his mom on his arm. The Louis Vuitton ambassador was decked out in the brand head to toe with a custom suit and a rose gold variation of the Maison’s Tambour.

For the occasion, he coupled his statement jewelry with a more sophisticated and understated timepiece from Omega: a 40mm De Ville Prestige in stainless steel on a leather strap.

Matt Bomer hit the red carpet alongside his co-star Bradley Cooper in hopes to land wins for their film Maestro, which received a total of seven nominations. While the film was ultimately upset in every category, the cast and crew still had their style game on point for the occasion. For the star-studded evening, Bomer sported a classic black tux and took to the trend of pairing it with a sport watch. His model of choice was the iconic TAG Heuer Carrera with a stainless steel build and black dial that seamlessly coordinated with this black tie look.

While it lost Best Picture to Oppenheimer, it took home wins in the other two categories, making it the first Best International Feature winner from the UK. Friedel came prepared to celebrate the wins for the film dressed in an eye-catching all-maroon ensemble, down to the timepiece. The Tank Louis Cartier in the same hue was the perfect complement to the look, which he topped off with Cartier Grain de Café earrings in two-tine 18-karat yellow gold and white gold with diamonds.

This year, he took the stage at the Academy Awards to present the award, and he looked dashing while doing so. The American actor wore a chic, double-breasted maroon and black suit then paired it with accessories from Cartier, including one of the brand’s hottest releases of 2023.
