You would be forgiven for thinking that A-listers used up all their big watch energy at the Academy Awards on Sunday, but at least seven celebs showed BWE on the streets this week following the ceremony.
To wit, three stars of Doug Liman’s Road House remake flexed some striking wrist candy at a photo call in London on Thursday. Connor McGregor showed off a glitzy Rolex Day-Date, Jake Gyllenhaal sported a sleek Cartier Santos, and Billy Magnussen rocked an Omega Seamaster Diver 007 Edition.
Closer to home, Ewan McGregor wore a Rolex Submariner on The Tonight Show, Lenny Kravitz donned a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Kevin Pollak busted out a seriously cool Franck Muller at the N.Y.C. premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Rick Ross arguably showed the most BWE, though, strapping an iced-out Audemars Piguet Royal Oak to his wrist to perform at a nightclub in Miami.
Below are the best watch flexes of the week.
-
Rick Ross: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
Rick Ross isn’t done showing off his multi-million dollar watch collection just yet. The rap mogul flexed a diamond-encrusted Audemars Piguet timepiece while performing at a nightclub in Miami this week. Made of 18-karat white gold, the 41 mm Royal Oak is dripping with (aftermarket) white stones. This type of ultra-blingy wrist candy, which is typically customized after being purchased from an authorized dealer, can easily command six figures on the secondary market. Watch and jewelry retailer Luxury NYC has a similar one on offer for $125,000 if you’re interested.

Lenny Kravitz: Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph
Lenny Kravitz received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week with a suitably dazzling Jaeger-LeCoultre on his wrist. Unveiled at Watches and Wonders last year, the sleek new Reverso features a 49.4 mm pink-gold case and a black sunray dial with a “railroad” minute track and Dauphine hands. The reverse skeletonized dial showcases the new hand-wound chronograph movement (Calibre 860) with hour markers and a minutes counter. The Reverso will set you back $38,800, but it is two watches in one.

Jake Gyllenhaal: Cartier Santos
Jake Gyllenhaal was named Cartier’s first watch ambassador in 2018. Six years on, the relationship between the actor and the Parisian jeweler is still going strong. The American actor wore a stylish gold Cartier Santos to the Road House photo call in London on Thursday. (Gyllenhaal plays Swayze’s role in the remake of the 1989 classic.) The Santos appears to be the actor’s Cartier of choice. He rocked a different two-tone reference while eating chicken wings on Hot Ones last year, in fact.
-
Billy Magnussen: Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition
Billy Magnussen may not be as famous as Jake Gyllenhaal or Connor McGregor, but he has the big watch energy of his co-stars. The 38-year-old actor wore a robust Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition to the Road House photo call in London on Thursday. The Swiss watchmaker worked closely on the development of the Bond watch with Daniel Craig and the James Bond filmmakers. The timepiece features a strong yet lightweight 42 mm titanium case, a “tropical” brown aluminum dial, and an aluminum bezel ring. It can be equipped with a titanium mesh bracelet ($9,200) or a Nato strap ($8,100), but Magnussen opted for the mesh for added strength.
-
Ewan McGregor: Rolex Submariner
Ewan McGregor kept things classy and classic on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The 52-year-old Scottish actor paired an elegant pinstripe suit with an understated Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner for the episode on Monday. The watch features a 41 mm Oystersteel case, a Cerachrom bezel with a black ceramic insert, a black dial with large luminescent hour markers, and an Oyster bracelet. Ref. 124060 is not only one of the crown’s most popular models but also one of its most price-accessible at just $9,100. Getting your hands on one may be another story.
-
Kevin Pollak: Franck Muller Long Island
Character actor Kevin Pollak wore a wonderfully quirky Franck Muller watch to the New York premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire on Thursday evening. The Long Island pays homage to the Art Deco movement, with a long rectangular case and dramatic arched numerals. The timepiece has been released in different materials over the years, but Pollak’s appears to feature a silver case, a champagne dial, and a brown strap. We can’t find the exact reference on the Swiss watchmaker’s website, but there are plenty of others available (the one pictured, for instance).

Connor McGregor: Rolex Day-Date
Believe it or not, the watch Connor McGregor wore to the Road House photo call in London was one of his more subdued timepieces. The UFC champion-turned-actor eschewed his glitzy Jacob & Co. wrist candy and six-figure Patek Philippe timepieces in favor of a more subdued Rolex. This particular Day-Date features a 36 mm case in 18-carat yellow gold, a chic champagne dial with baton markers, an elegant fluted bezel, and the iconic President bracelet. OK, so the $35,000 watch is not entirely understated.
