As an experienced shopper, I’m aware that investing in a new season is all about balance. I tend to think about my purchases fitting into two categories: a few designer buys that feel special and more affordable staples that do the heavy lifting. But even when I’m shopping for basics, let’s be honest, I want expensive-looking clothes—pieces that fit well, are designed with quality materials, and will last me more than a season. I try to avoid obvious dupes and fast-fashion replications of runway styles, simply because I want to support creatives when I can and actually buy the real thing if I love the look. But when it comes to affordable clothes, I do think it’s possible to buy pieces with a designer vibe without straying into copycat territory.
With luxe-looking, affordable pieces, I usually find that it’s best to keep it simple. Shoes and outerwear are two of my go-tos when going the cheaper route. Sleek ballet flats or a structured wool coat both have a timelessness to them and can dress up a look without actually requiring spending a ton. Since my daily uniform often starts around the very simple combination of light-wash vintage jeans and a white tank top, I rely on shoes, tailored separates, and jewelry to transform the look into something more polished. But a dress that fits well or a well-designed leather bag can also go a long way in giving off that luxury vibe.
Having done lots of reconnaissance on this one, I’m sharing a few of my favorite affordable finds that give off that designer vibe.
