Summary

  • The Below Deck franchise features a variety of charter guests who vacation on luxurious yachts, some pleasant and others difficult to deal with.
  • Memorable charter guests include an American Idol alum, a disruptive lawyer, an adult film star, and a musician who became a party animal.
  • The crew members’ main goal is to ensure the charter guests have a great time on the yacht, catering to their needs and avoiding complaints or mishaps.

The Below Deck franchise has welcomed many iconic charter guests on the show over the years, and one of them was even an American Idol alum. Below Deck premiered on Bravo in 2013, and has since added four spinoffs to its roster; Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Adventure. Each Below Deck spinoff is very similar, and centers around a group of crew members who live and work aboard a yacht together.

Every spinoff in the Below Deck franchise features charter guests who vacation on a yacht for the trip of a lifetime, whether they’re sailing around the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Great Barrier Reef, or even the waters of Norway. The guests send the crew members a preference sheet beforehand to make sure their needs are tended to during their time on board. Some Below Deck charter guests are pleasant, while others are very difficult to deal with. The main goal for the crew members is to make sure the charter guests have the best time on the yacht, without any complaints or mishaps.

Frank Fay – Below Deck Mediterranean Season 7

Frank Fay was a memorable charter guest on Below Deck Med season 7, and was most known for catching the attention of third stew Kyle Viljoen. When Frank came aboard the motoryacht Home for his charter, Kyle was immediately attracted to him, especially his smile. Kyle continued to flirt with Frank throughout his time on board, even though he knew he would lose his job. The third stew did eventually share a kiss with the charter guest, but was only called out by Captain Sandy Yawn instead of being fired altogether.

Justin Guarini – Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4

American Idol season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini made an unexpected reality TV appearance as a charter guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4. Justin came on the charter as a friend of the primary guest, Kim. On the Parsifal III, the popular celebrity made his mark by spilling his drink on the boat’s staircase, and complimenting Chef Ileisha Dell’s cuisine by calling it “out of this world.” Justin’s group of charter guests made Below Deck history when they invited the crew members to eat dinner with them.

Erica Rose – Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 & 4

Erica Rose was a difficult charter guest who was on Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons 3 and 4. This wasn’t Erica’s first reality TV stint, as she previously appeared on The Bachelor season 9 and Bachelor Pad season 2 and 3. The lawyer booked a charter on the yacht with a group of friends who were disruptive to the crew members. Erica and her husband Charles Sanders are most known for giving the Parsifal III crew one of the lowest tips at $6,500. Charles also complained about Chef Marcos Spaziani’s food throughout the whole charter, which aggravated the crew.

Laura Desiree – Below Deck Down Under Season 2

Laura Desiree joined Captain Jason Chambers and the rest of the crew aboard the Northern Sun on Below Deck Down Under season 2. The primary charter guest was known for her inappropriate behavior on the yacht, which made crew members like Chief Stew Aesha Scott uncomfortable. Laura was a very demanding charter guest, whether she was recruiting deckhand Culver Bradbury to do piggyback fights topless, or being covered in chocolate by Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph while laying across the dessert table during a “big gay brunch.” The adult film star still had a great time on board, despite her unusual requests for the crew.

Roy Orbison Jr – Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 & 6

Roy Orbison Jr. was a charter guest on Below Deck Med seasons 5 and 6, and caused a lot of drama on the show. The musician enjoyed a luxury vacation around the Mediterranean with his family and friends, who seemed to be the calmest guests in the franchise on Below Deck Med season 5. However, when Roy returned for Below Deck Med season 6, he became more comfortable and unleashed his inner party animal.

Roy drank a lot during his charter on Below Deck Med season 6, and took part in various activities on the boat such as going on the slide and indulging the meals prepared by the chef. During one of the dinners, Roy was so drunk that he was slurring his words, and his wife had to ask him to leave the table and go to sleep. He also peed all over one of the toilets, leaving third stew Courtney Veale to clean up his mess. It’s safe to say that Roy made his mark after appearing on Below Deck Med.

Timothy Sykes – Below Deck Season 2

Timothy Sykes met Captain Lee Rosbach and his crew aboard motoryacht Ohana on Below Deck season 2. At the time, he was called one of the worst charter guests in Below Deck history, long before other people stole the title from him. The CEO constantly complained about the boat’s Wi-Fi situation, and wanted Chef Ben Robinson to make a molecular gastronomy dinner. The meal impressed everyone but his much-younger girlfriend, who asked the chef to make her a quesadilla.

Timothy was upset with the crew for not accommodating his needs throughout the charter by not having the correct Wi-Fi connection on board so he and his employees can work. At the end of the charter, he even removed some of the tip money in front of the crew, taking $5K away from a total of $22K. Since his Below Deck episodes aired, Timothy claimed that some of his scenes on the show were fake, and said producers made him look bad.

Barrie & Tony Drewitt Barlow – Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 as charter guests. The former couple sailed aboard the Parsifal III with their five children, along with Barrie’s current fiance Scott, and Tony’s boyfriend Brent. On the show, Barrie didn’t get along with Captain Glenn Shephard. Barrie seemed to be attached to his phone instead of talking to Captain Glenn, which made the crew member tell him to put it away. This was offensive to Barrie, since he was the one paying for the trip. Overall, the Below Deck charter guest still had a great time on the yacht.
