To have a watch like this, produced directly by Rolex’s subsidiary brand at a fraction of the price, is simply incredible. So here comes a hot take, people: I’d buy this over a Rolex any day of the week.
While everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, I will submit three very simple points as to why I hold such an “outrageous” opinion. Feel free to tell me how wrong/stupid I am in the comments.
Either way, you’ll have a hard time convincing me this watch isn’t a better option in almost every way.
1. It’s just as handsome
The GMT-Master II is my preferred timepiece within Rolex’s lineup. I believe it to be one of the most iconic and prettiest designs of all time. No question about it. Denying it would be like saying the moon’s made out of cardboard and glue.
Even so, this wonderful design does not fall far behind. That beautiful black dial combines perfectly with the golden accents from the indexes and hands. The black and red bezel is vintage enough without it looking old-fashioned.
And finally, it has perfect proportions for almost any wrist size out there at 39 mm in diameter. So unless you find that Snowflake hour hand more disgusting than French kissing a recently awoken Boris Johnson, you’ll have a hard time disliking this model.
2. Specs are suspiciously similar
A very good argument to own the Rolex over the Tudor would be if the calibers inside them were galactic systems apart from each other. Here are the facts, though.
The Rolex GMT-Master II uses an automatic caliber with anti-magnetic protection, a second time zone indication, a chronometer certification for a +2/-2 daily accuracy, and 70 hours of power reserve.
On the other hand, the Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT uses an automatic caliber with anti-magnetic protection, a second time zone indication, a chronometer and METAS certification for a +2/-2 daily accuracy, and 65 hours of power reserve.
If you haven’t spotted a substantial difference. it’s not because you missed something. It’s because there isn’t any. The Rolex Jihadists will disagree, but the numbers don’t lie.
You’re getting roughly the same benefits with the Tudor. And to make things even worse for the Rolex, that’s not even the best part about this watch.
3. It’s less than half the price!
