BMW has confirmed pricing for its iX2 electric car, which will go head-to-head with the likes of the Volvo C40 when it arrives next year.
The German giant is also talking up its EV offering, which now includes 15 variants across seven battery electric vehicles in its local line-up.
Of those models, six of them slide in under the Luxury Car Tax threshold for fuel efficient vehicles which, at the moment, is $89,332.
As well as the i4 eDrive35, iX3 M Sport, iX1 eDrive20 and eDrive 30, the list of six includes the new new iX2 grades – eDrive20 and 30.
Pricing for the iX2 eDrive20 is $82,900, before on-road costs, and that grade will roll into local dealerships from mid-2024.
A more potent grade, the iX2 xDrive30, will hit Australia in quarter one, 2024.
The xDrive20 pricing is $4000 more than the mechanically related iX1 xDrive20 that was recently added to the line-up.
The X1 and X2 share underpinnings but the X2 has a coupe-style exterior design, while the X1 has a more traditional, boxier SUV shape.
In terms of all-electric small SUV rivals, the Lexus UX300e is $79,990, , before on road costs, the Mercedes-Benz EQA starts at $82,300 and Volvo C40 coupe-SUV starts at $78,990.
The iX2 xDrive20 has power and torque outputs of 150kW and 247Nm, respectively, and its 67kWh battery ensures a provisional driving range of up to 477km on the WLTP protocol.
For more poke, the xDrive30 ups outputs to 230kW/494Nm, but the range drops to a provisional 449km. This grade is $85,700 – $2800 more than the xDrive20.
As reported, the new-generation X2 revealed earlier in October takes on a swoopier look compared to the original. It now looks like a shrunken X4 or X6.
The X2 will be offered in two 2.0-litre petrol grades – the front-wheel drive sDrive20i from $75,900 and spicy all-wheel drive M35i xDrive topping the range at $92,900.
BMW says specification for the iX2 xDrive20 will be revealed closer to the model’s launch, but it has confirmed details for the xDrive30.
It comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, Adaptive M suspension, auto tailgate, digital key, an illuminated kidney grille, 10.7-inch ‘Live Cockpit’ display plus 10.25-inch curved digital display, a head-up display, ‘M Sport Package’, two charging cables and a 12-month subscription to the Chargefox charging network.
