At $450,000, this Sydney apartment would not seem to be among the city’s most prestigious pieces of real estate.
But when measured by square metre, the studio in a world-famous location is in rare air, as one of Sydney’s most elite addresses.
At not quite 16 square metres, the Bondi Beach apartment – 21/68 Gould Street – has a price of $28,409 per square metre.
The Sydney median price per square metre is $2466, according to Domain 2023 data.
Ray White agents confirmed the price guide of $450,000, ahead of a December 2 auction. The listing is being handled by Angus Gorrie and Luke Fuller.
The Australian per-square-metre price record is $126,000, held by a Bondi Beach apartment. The $24 million – which also set a postcode apartment record – was paid in January this year for luxury three-bedroom pad, marketed as the “best penthouse” in the suburb.
The Gould Street studio is similarly to a hotel room, with a single living and bedroom space, including a kitchenette with a four-burner stove top, bar fridge and microwave shelf, and a separate bathroom that has a shower. It does not come with a car park.
The wow moment is the location, just 100 metres from the iconic beach.
The apartment building has a communal terrace on the rooftop, and is at the back of street block that faces Campbell Parade, which is on the waterfront, surrounded by restaurants, bars and shopping.
No other apartments in 68 Gould Street have sold this year, according to Domain public records, but two traded in 2022 for sums of $702,500 and $750,000. That highest price was for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom and one-car space apartment, which had been renovated to include industrial-style fittings and polished floors.
The $702,500 property also has one bedroom, one car space and one bathroom, plantation shutters on the windows and subway tiles in the kitchen.
Each has a bedroom that is distinct from the kitchen and living space.
The median apartment and house prices in Bondi are not available due to a low volume of sales.
The record-breaking $24 million apartment crowns the suburb with views of Icebergs, the golden sand and breaking waves, views through glass concertina doors to a deep, ocean-front deck.
Bondi Beach’s property record is $29 million, forked out for James Packer’s former home, which also hosted pop star Ricky Martin in 2013, and has a gym, cinema room and basement garaging for several cars.
