Burberry is the latest big luxury name to announce a partnership with upscale global resale giant Vestiaire Collective, “to offer customers a new way to trade-in their pre-loved Burberry pieces, so they can be enjoyed for longer”.

Burberry

As of this week in the UK and US, consumers can trade-in their items on the Burberry x Vestiaire Collective platform, in exchange for a Burberry gift card.

Since it was founded 14 years ago, Vestiaire Collective has focused on the premium and luxury end of the fashion resale market and so has been a major reseller of key high-end labels. But more recently, though its Resale as a Service programme, it has been working more closely with those luxury brands “as they embrace circularity, and [as it] strives to continuously promote a more responsible fashion industry”. This partnership is another step in that direction.

France-based Vestiaire Collective will offer customers a price for their pre-loved Burberry item and once it has been accepted and the item shipped, “a rigorous authentication and quality control process will take place”.

The customer then gets the Burberry gift card, which can be spent both in-store or online at the label’s webstore. All of the traded-in pieces will then be available to buy globally.

And as well as the sustainability aspect, there’s a charity angle with Burberry having donated a selection of women’s Heritage Trench Coats to the platform. The sale price of these items will go to UK-based charity Smart Works that provides high-quality interview clothes and coaching to unemployed women in need. The company has supported the charity for 10 years.

The new partnership with Vestiaire Collective is part of the ReBurberry customer-facing circularity programme.
