Good things come to those who wait, and it seems like the world will have to exercise a bit more patience before laying eyes on one of the most anticipated luxury custom superyachts of recent years.

Project Metamorphosis is that luxury custom superyacht, and anticipation for it has been building since at least early 2020 when word first got out that esteemed fashion designer Giorgio Armani was getting ready to design a superyacht. This time, it wouldn’t be his own leisure craft. He’d already done that for Mariù and Maìn, both of which he’d owned, but this time marked his first outing as a proper superyacht designer.

Confirmation of it came sometime after that, but it would be another couple of years before the world was treated to a first look at the project via renders.

Dubbed Project Metamorphosis, it was a 72-meter (236-foot) superyacht that would be built by Admiral Yachts under The Italian Sea Group (TISG) and would combine geometric volumes with soft curves and high fashion touches throughout. In short, it would be exactly what you’d imagine an Armani-designed superyacht would look like, down to muted pastels for the interior and golden accents on the outside.

Metamorphosis came with a 2024 delivery date and the promise that it would make its public debut at the Monaco Yacht Show of that same year. The superyacht already had a buyer, but his identity wasn’t disclosed – as is standard practice in the industry.

In what is a rarity for a project of this magnitude and one that hasn’t even been completed yet, Project Metamorphosis has been re-sold. The vessel is now under construction in Marina di Carrara in Italy, and before it’s even out on sea trials, it’s already at its second owner.

One trade publication notes that Darrell Hall of YachtZoo represented the buyer, while Michel Chryssicopoulos of IYC represented the seller. The superyacht’s last asking price was €105 million, which is approximately $114 million at the current exchange rate.

Regardless of the amount it changed hands for, it will require further investment. The second owner is determined to make changes to the original design, which also means the delivery date has been pushed forward to April 2025 to allow the yard time to carry forth the upgrades. After all, you don’t buy a custom superyacht to have to settle for someone else’s version of it; you will want to truly make it your own.

Metamorphosis has an ice-class steel hull, making it as competent as it’s beautiful. Range will be over over 5,500 nautical miles (6,330 miles/10,186 km), with accommodation for as many as 14 guests across seven staterooms and 20 crew, and amenities ranging from a large pool and vast wellness area to a helipad.

Project Metamorphosis, which will be sailing under a different name once it’s delivered to its second owner, is actually the first superyacht Armani has designed for Admiral. The second one has a delivery date for Q2 2025.
