BTC Trading Features Coming to X Platform Soon

X may soon let users trade crypto directly from charts inside posts. Former X product head Nikita Bier said trade buttons could be added to crypto charts, although the feature is still being tested and there’s no confirmed launch date yet. It could support coins like BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, ZEC and XLM, building on X’s existing Smart Cashtags feature.

What are you talking about?

I literally built Cashtags, allowing people to add Solana and Ethereum charts directly into posts—with trade buttons coming soon.

You can even paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens.

There wasn’t a single feature on X for crypto traders…

— Nikita Bier (@nikitabier) August 25, 2026

Bier said he originally created Cashtags to bring crypto trading tools to X. He led X’s product team for 13 months before leaving on August 5, and he’s now continuing with the company as an adviser.

X May Not Handle the Actual Trades

There’s still some uncertainty about how X’s crypto trading feature will actually work. Bier previously suggested users could trade directly from their timeline, but later clarified that X won’t handle the trades itself or act as a broker. Instead, the new button may simply send users to an outside platform to complete the trade.

That’s already how X works with Wealthsimple in Canada, users tap a crypto or stock ticker on X and are sent to Wealthsimple to make the actual transaction.

Which Networks Will Be Supported?

The exact blockchain coverage remains unclear. Bier mentioned Solana and Ethereum, while Solana previously described the launch as supporting Solana tokens through Dialect, Helius, Jupiter and Birdeye. X has not officially published a complete list.

X Money Adds to the Bigger Plan

The crypto push comes as X expands X Money, its payments system and part of Elon Musk’s “everything app” vision. X Money began rolling out to U.S. Premium and Premium+ users on July 27, offering features including up to 6% APY, 3% cashback, a Visa card and FDIC coverage of up to $10 million through a cash-sweep program, with banking services provided by Cross River.

Interestingly, its product page currently does not mention crypto, Bitcoin, trading, stocks or brokerage services.

What Does It Mean for Crypto?

Bier also linked the potential crypto bull market to the U.S. Treasury’s bond-buyback plans, after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at least doubled planned purchases of long-dated government debt on August 20.

However, the market has not yet confirmed Bier’s bullish call. Crypto’s total market cap fell 3.2% over the following 24 hours to $2.65 trillion. Bitcoin stood at $78,863, while ETH traded near $2,455 and SOL at $96.48.

If X eventually lets people easily buy crypto from posts, it could make investing much simpler by letting users go from seeing a token to buying it with just a few clicks.
