CRN, the long-established shipyard specialising in the design, engineering and construction of fully custom metal yachts, has delivered Cerulean, its new 70-metre displacement superyacht. Built in steel and aluminium, the yacht combines a modern, refined look with classic lines, harmoniously bringing together technological innovation, sophisticated finishes and a bespoke culture. Delivery followed the successful completion of sea trials and shipyard testing.

Formerly Project Thunderball

Originally launched as Project Thunderball, Cerulean is the result of close collaboration between CRN, the Dutch studio Vripack Yacht Design and the Italian studio Nauta. Vripack designed the exterior lines, the preliminary naval architecture and the preliminary general layout, while Nauta handled the interior design and the outdoor social areas, with particular attention to comfort and the flow between spaces. Y.CO, acting as owner’s representative and project management team, provided technical expertise, close supervision throughout construction — from process control and acceptance to project management activities — as well as the supervision and coordination of external contractors.

A superyacht ready to make its mark

Measuring 70 metres in length overall with an 11-metre beam and four decks, the 1,100 GT yacht accommodates 12 guests between the owner’s suite and five VIP cabins, plus 15 crew in nine cabins. Its silhouette is marked by a long traditional bow, a sleek profile and flowing lines inspired by those of a sailing yacht, matched by gently curved bilges and smooth surfaces. A key feature is the design continuity between interior and exterior: geometries and proportions echo each other from outside in and inside out, creating a fluid, recognisable journey, with stylistic motifs repeated at different scales, in different materials or functions, to strike a balance between variety and design coherence.

A fully custom yacht

Cerulean is a perfect expression of CRN’s bespoke approach, combining advanced engineering solutions, energy efficiency and the highest degree of customisation, in line with the very best of international yacht design. Starting from the owner’s vision, every choice — from the selection of materials to the definition of technical specifications and onboard systems — was guided by a tailor-made outlook and by a constant dialogue between form and function.

The interior design goes beyond fashion and time, revealing a deep connection with maritime culture, while the spaces feature a sophisticated mix of refined details, blending heritage with a modern, elegant aesthetic that reinterprets those elements in a contemporary key. The yacht is also fitted with an Energy Storage System, designed to manage onboard energy flows according to planned operations, capable of peak shaving and of ensuring silent operation at anchor, contributing to a substantial reduction in fuel consumption.
