Belize is looking to welcome the first super yacht to its waters as part of a new initiative in the tourism industry. The vessel is one of several luxury yachts coming to Belize through talks with the Ministry of Tourism and the Yacht Brokers Association of America. The move aims to showcase the country’s pristine blue waters and other marine tourism products. Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Anthony Mahler, explained that the effort and similar ventures in his ministry center on attracting new business for local tourism stakeholders.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism: “We’ve worked hard in reaching out to the Yacht Brokers Association. The other day we brought in about 12 or 15 of them. And now we’re getting our first mega yacht to be housed in Belize for a period of time. So it’s going to be, as I’ve been told, a 120 foot yacht to be resident in the Belize. I think the conversation has to continue. We have created a good relationship, a very strong relationship with our private sector and people who have invested their blood, sweat and tears money into the tourism industry and we have to show them the respect, we have to show them the love the same way, and we have to show the destinations, the importance.”
