A new collaboration between Immutable and Portal was announced during Korean Blockchain Week. This new partnership targets some major issues in the Web3 gaming ecosystem, including game distribution, user experience, and monetization.

One area of focus is increasing liquidity within the Web3 gaming space, a crucial element for developers looking to grow and sustain their projects. While the partnership is in its early stages, it holds the potential to make an impact on how Web3 games operate and reach their audiences.

Focus on Improving Liquidity in Web3 Gaming

The partnership between Immutable and Portal aims to combine Portal’s know-how in acquiring users and providing payment solutions with Immutable’s scalable game development platform.

The partnership aims to meld Portal’s know-how in user growth and payment systems with Immutable’s powerful game development platform, which “Not only enhances the growth potential of Web3 gaming but also increases the chances of more web3 games finding traction with mainstream audiences,” according to the announcement.

An important facet of this collaboration is that it zeroes in on bolstering liquidity within the Immutable ecosystem. And bolstering liquidity, in turn, allows for more flexible and smoother monetization of games in the Immutable ecosystem.

By incorporating the Portal’s technology to perform cross-chain operations, Immutable looks to provide a healthier and richer ecosystem for game designers. They believe that by working with the Portal to unite their two layer 2 (L2) solutions, they will give game designers a chance to engage a player base across the many worlds of Web3.

Furthermore, Immutable wants to use Portal’s cross-chain technology to bolster the foundation of its games. By doing this, the company hopes to leverage the tech to make its way into a more “cross-chain” world where its titles can be played on multiple chains.

Streamlining Web3 Game Distribution

Beyond merely improving liquidity, the partnership focuses on how to improve Web3 gaming distribution and monetization. To that end, one of the fundamental tools in the partnership’s toolbox is something known as Portal Pay. Portal Pay is a payment and transaction solution that works across the entire Immutable gaming ecosystem. By using this solution, the developers of Immutable games can tap into a much larger audience.

The integration of Portal Pay into Immutable’s platform could ease the process of making payments as well as handling reward systems in games. This could affect player satisfaction and engagement as well as developers in managing the in-game economy.

Immutable, which provides zero-knowledge (zk) scaling solutions via platforms such as Immutable zkEVM, is working to broaden its reach in game distribution. Collaborating with Portal could help it optimize the scaling processes and make Web3 games available to a much larger audience. Currently, a number of obstacles prevent many developers from making their games Web3-compatible, and these two companies might be able to help clear the way.
