Château d’Esclans—a leader in rosé wine production and made popular for their wines such as Whispering Angel, Rock Angel and Les Clans—partners with BlockBar to auction the first NFT barrel of their renowned Garrus rosé.
BlockBar, a marketplace for authenticated wines and spirits, is organizing the auction and marks the combination of traditional winemaking with blockchain technology.
The 2023 vintage barrel of Garrus will be divided into four quarters with each representing 150L, or 200 standard 750ml bottles, which can be bottled in various formats including Magnums, Jeroboams, and six-liter Methuselahs.

The auction will use BlockBar’s leaderboard technology where successful bidders must choose their bottle formats by June 21 and decide whether to store the wine at BlockBar’s storage facility for resale or collect it directly from Château d’Esclans in Provence.
Sacha Lichine, Founder of Château d’Esclans, commented, “I’m happy to see that we have demonstrated the more noble side to rosè with Garrus; but if I’m being honest, the premiumization of the category is just beginning. The innovation of auctioning a barrel of our finest rosé for the first time on BlockBar is very exciting. We look forward to welcoming the new owners at Château d’Esclans.”
Jamie Ritchie of BlockBar also added, “Sacha Lichine created a global rosé revolution that has reverberated around the world, from Saint Tropez to Saint Barts. At Château d’Esclans, he reimagined the definition of world class rosé, from the ubiquitous Whispering Angel to Garrus, the most exclusive and serious rosé ever produced.”
Each buyer and three additional guests will be invited to Château d’Esclans during the fall harvest season. The visit includes a VIP tour of the winery and vineyards, a tasting session with the winemaker, and a lunch with Sacha Lichine herself.
The owners’ names will also be inscribed on the barrel, along with a photo taken inside the barrel room.
