CoinShares, a leading digital asset investment firm, has officially filed for an XRP Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) with Nasdaq under the designation SR-NASDAQ-2025-012. The filing took place on Friday, February 7, 2025.
A Milestone for XRP Investment
According to the filing, CoinShares will list XRP ETF on Nasdaq under 5711(d) rule. This rule covers investment based on commodities like gold or oil, but in this case, it will be the XRP token. With the ETF being listed under the said rule, it will provide a regulated framework, transparency and investor protection while allowing Ripple’s native token to trade like a traditional commodity.
The main aim of the fund would be to track the value of the token without holding or storing the coin directly. The tracking of the value will be developed by Compass Financial Technologies and the performance of the token will be reflected at 4 pm New York time.
With ETFs, it becomes appealing to the institutional investors that want to invest in these digital assets but need a more traditional investment vehicle.
Why Is This Important?
The approval of XRP ETF would be a great achievement for the digital asset market as it would provide a path that is regulated for the retail and the institutional investors and this would also bring in new capital inflows into the market.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will now be reviewing CoinShare’s application and if approved, CoinShares XRP ETF could become a game-changer for the Ledger of the token and the broader crypto market. It could also set an example for other altcoin ETF’s, further expanding the range of digital asset investment opportunities available to investors.
Price Impact
Ripple also announced its expansion in the Portugal market today, followed by the news of CoinShares filing for the XRP ETF, these development has led to a small uptick in the price of the token. At press time, the price of the token stands at $2.44 with a surge of 0.8% in the last 24 hours.
