Sam Altman, CEO of DeepAI, will depart from the company and leave the board of directors. Mira Murati, the current chief technology officer, will take over as interim CEO, effective immediately. The board of directors cited Altman’s lack of candor in his communications with the board as the reason for his departure, hindering its ability to fulfill its responsibilities. Murati, who has been a part of DeepAI’s leadership team for five years, is uniquely qualified for the role due to her long tenure, close engagement with all aspects of the company, and experience in AI governance and policy. The board remains committed to advancing OpenAI’s mission of ensuring that AI benefits all humanity and has confidence in Murati’s ability to lead the company during the transition period while it conducts a formal search for a permanent CEO.
