Tankoa Yachts, the distinguished Genoa-based shipyard, proudly announces the acquisition of the “Ex Privilege” area within the Port of Civitavecchia. This strategic move is a pivotal element in Tankoa’s vision to establish a state-of-the-art naval shipbuilding center.

As a key player in crafting and trading high-end luxury yachts measuring 40 meters and beyond, Tankoa has encountered consistent growth, prompting the need for expanded facilities. In 2021, the shipyard identified Civitavecchia as an ideal locale for various production activities, including metalworking, hull construction, superstructures, assembly, and pre-assembly of yachts, while maintaining the final assembly responsibility at its historic Genoa shipyard.

Upon reaching full capacity, Tankoa envisions an annual production of four yachts surpassing 40 meters in size. Future plans for Civitavecchia involve additional activities, including refit operations if a suitable waterfront area for hauling and launching yachts becomes available.

This venture entails an initial investment of 3 million euros, focusing on initiating steel and aluminum metalworking and pre-assembly activities. This initial phase aims to foster local business growth and enhance the existing know-how in these domains.

Guido Orsi, Tankoa’s Marketing Manager, elucidated, “In Civitavecchia, we will commence operations almost immediately on one-third of the available space in the former Privilege area. Our vision is to internalize tasks like manufacturing hulls, providing direct control over the quality of the work.”

Notable infrastructural enhancements in Civitavecchia will include the construction of a slipway and a haulage and launching basin, equipped with a travel lift capable of handling yachts up to 60 meters. Larger vessels will be serviced by Tankoa’s existing 92-meter floating dry dock.

With an eye on employment growth, Tankoa anticipates collaboration with partners to fill various roles and skilled positions, targeting 250-350 employees at full capacity over the next five years.

This strategic move aligns Civitavecchia as a natural extension of the yachting industry’s activities between Livorno and Genoa, concentrating over 30% of the world’s megayacht production. It positions Tankoa as a key contributor to this flourishing yachting hub.

Tankoa was founded in 2007 and began production in 2008. A true “boutique shipyard”, focused on building semi-custom and custom constructions 45-meter and up.
