From Old ‘Path’ to New: A Yachting Enthusiast’s Upgrade Amid Tensions
The arena of luxury yachting experienced a significant transaction as a wealthy enthusiast traded his decade-old sailing superyacht, ‘Path’ for a newer, larger model by the same builder, Baltic Yachts.
The original Path was a part of the Baltic 112 series, built in 2011, and was recently sold for a sum of 7.9 million ($7.5 million) following a significant price reduction.
A Look at the Original ‘Path’
The 36-meter sloop was the product of the artistic ingenuity of Judel/Vrolijk & Co’s design coupled with the sophisticated interior styling by R&J Design. The original Path was constructed for extensive cruising and family comfort.
Its lightweight yet durable structure was composed of modern materials like Kevlar and carbon fiber. This yacht offered accommodations for eight guests and six crew members, and featured ‘floating’ interiors to reduce noise and vibration. Its sizable fuel capacity and advanced electronics ensured autonomy on the high seas.
The New ‘Path’
Following the successful stint with the original Path, the owner commissioned a new yacht from Baltic Yachts, the Baltic 146, which was launched in 2019. This new addition to the yachting world was the third-largest yacht by volume from Baltic Yachts at that time.
The new Path, like its predecessor, was deeply influenced by the owner’s requirements and experiences. This yacht featured advanced environmental compliance and was equipped with solar panels, symbolizing a stride in the direction of sustainability.
Yachting and the Russian Sanctions
In closely related news, Italian authorities confiscated a super yacht owned by Russian billionaire, Andrei Igorevich Melnichenko, who has been placed on an EU sanctions list. The Sailing Yacht A, estimated to be worth around 578 million, is considered the world’s biggest sailing yacht.
This seizure came as a part of a larger crackdown where Italian police seized villines and yachts worth 156 million from five high-profile Russians on the EU sanctions list.
